| The 2001 World Church
project was to raise funds to support St Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Nablus
in Israel. (In Israel Palestine the church of Scotland is in
partnership with the Episcopal Church. Nablus is the major commercial centre in the northern part of the West Bank. It is within the Palestinian Authority area, but ringed by the Israeli army of occupation, which during the present Intafada has caused great hardship. Most of the city's 6000,000 inhabitants as Muslim with only one percent Christian. St Luke's is a general hospital with a capacity of 60 beds. Last year more than 2000 babies were born and more than 2000 operations took place in the hospital. The aim of the hospital is to enhance the welfare of the local community, and in practical ways to minister in Christ's name. You can find out more about the Hospital on their website: www.slh-pal.org Rev Hanna Mansour, the Administrative Director, has appealed to the world Christians community to stand by the local church in solidarity at a very difficult time. The project was recommended by Rev Clarence Musgrave, our mission partner at St Andrew's Jerusalem and our support will be of enormous encouragement to him and to all our mission partners in Israel Palestine at this time. |
