  A message from Clarence Musgrave
Mission Partner in Jerusalem

8 October 2003

I do not normally forward messages that I receive, as I like to have first hand information and experience about anything that I send out.
This is a bit different, in that we have visited this village 3 or 4 times now, met with some of its leaders, and can vouch for the predicament in which they find themselves. I had written about a woman and her child getting to school in Letter No 143
If you feel that this is something which you can put on your Website, with an encouragement to people to write to MPs etc - or even without an encouragement - I am sure that the folk in the village would feel greatly encouraged. We will be going back there in a week or two - maybe even this weekend depending on our programme.

Stay well
God bless
Joan and Clarence

Appeal

The farmers and the people of Jayyous appeal you to withstand, the continuous closure of the wall’s gate in Jayyous. For more than 10 days in the past two weeks the only possible way for the whole community to reach olive and citrus farms where closed. About, three hundred families were stopped at the gate and not let them pass to their land.

All the irrigated areas (1500 dunums) including 120 green houses are now under real deterioration. Without reaching the farms for additional few days, or if closure will continue to be in similar way (open 2 days a week), means complete loss of all vegetable products, especially inside the green houses.

Jayyous has 6 groundwater wells, and all are now seized behind the wall, and in addition to 2300 acre of the most fertile land. The area behind the wall produces annually 7 million kilograms of vegetables and fruits. It also creates about 65000 working days per year. The sustainable life that framers used to, and the jobs for three hundreds families (2000 person) are now frozen and vanish slowly.

This is the time to pick up olives, and to harvest guava and calamondin. No access or partial access to land means death of products and life of people in Jayyous.
We in the municipality of Jayyous, have no resources to deal with such overwhelming crises.

Help us to reach our land
Give us hope for tomorrow
Be aware of your responsibilities and human feeling
Do something for these families
