Flower Festival
On the 2nd and 3rd May 2003 the Aberdeen Guild Council organised a flower
festival in Craigiebuckler Church to help raise funds for the Guild. Every
Guild in Aberdeen was asked to submit a flower arrangement on a given
biblical text, the overall theme being – ‘Empowered by His Spirit’ Teas
and Coffees were also served with Guilds taking turns to provide the eats
and serve the teas. The event was a huge success. Over 500 people visited
the church over the two days and a total of £1,205.73 was raised for Guild
Council funds.
The festival concluded on the Sunday 4th May with a Songs of Praise
service in the church organised in conjunction with Christian Women
Together and this serviced raised a further £420 which went to The Archie
Foundation for the chapel in the new children’s hospital.

Guild Walk
On Sunday 25th May 2003 over 100 guild members and friends met at Cults
East Church for the annual Guild Walk. The intention was to walk along the
Deeside Line. The walk started off well in lovely warm sunshine but the
weather rapidly deteriorated and soon the rain was coming down in
torrents! This meant that most people cut the walk short and returned
early to the church wet but in good spirit. Some hardy members did manage
to walk almost to Culter and back despite the inclement weather. A welcome
cup of tea awaited everyone at the end of the walk and although the
weather outside was wet the welcome and the fellowship shared was very
warm and much enjoyed by one and all.
The Guild Meeting in Glasgow
Approximately 55 guild members from Aberdeen set off, by road and rail, on
Saturday 30th August to meet up with over 2,000 other guild members at
Glasgow Concert Hall for the annual guild meeting – Challenge 2003. The
atmosphere in the hall was electric as we were led in praise by the new
Nation Convenor Moira Alexander and the Praise Group from Brightons Church
Falkirk. The speakers for the day were; - The Moderator, The Rt. Rev.
Prof. Iain Torrance, Rev Kathy Galloway and Rev. Nigel Pounde. All set us
challenges for the next session and updates were given on the Guild
Projects both old and new. It was a wonderful start to our new Guild
Session and set us on the road to ‘Dare to Care – with Courage (the new
guild theme for 2003 – 2004).
