1. Business & Finance Committee
(Convener - George Cowie)
This Committee is comprised of the Conveners of all the Presbytery Standing
Committees, the Clerk, the Moderator, the Treasurer, the Press Officer and
the Convener: and ordinarily meets on the Wednesday morning 14 days prior to
Presbytery's meeting*.
The remit of the Committee is:- So to order the business of Presbytery as to
ensure that it carries out its duties as a Court of the Church; to nominate
membership of Presbytery Committees and other representatives of Presbytery
when required; to supervise Presbytery finance; to oversee any ongoing
modifications necessary to the structure of Presbytery.
2.Vacancy Procedure Committee
(Convener - John Ferguson)
A Vacancy Procedure Committee is appointed by the Moderator for each charge
in a vacancy or impending vacancy. In most cases the same group of people
drawn from Property, Parish Development and Congregational Support will act
for all vacancies. However, if necessary the Moderator will appoint a
substitute to avoid a conflict of interest.
3. Malawi Partnership Committee
(Convener - John Watson; Vice Convener - Ken Petrie)
A Malawi Partnership Committee has been formed to promote the twinning
agreement between the Presbytery of Aberdeen and Blantyre City Presbytery in
Malawi. In addition to the Convener and Vice Convener, who are both members
of Presbytery, six further members serve as representatives of twinned
congregations. The latter need not be members of Presbytery.
4. Remits of the other Standing Committees of Presbytery which ordinarily
meet in the second week of the months of September, October, November,
January, February, March, April and June*.
PARISH DEVELOPMENT
(Convener - John Ferguson)
To promote a positive policy for the Mission of Presbytery by taking account
of changing congregational resources and social patterns as they relate to
the General Assembly/Aberdeen Presbytery Plan of Readjustment 1988, as
revised in 1998 and in 2006.
RESOURCES FOR MISSION AND TRAINING (REFORMAT)
(Convener - Dolly Purnell)
(a) To keep Mission at the centre of the life of both Presbytery and
Congregations and to encourage evangelism in appropriate and sustainable
ways, in ecumenical partnership.
(b) To promote Christian Education of children, young people and adults by
congregational programmes, all-Presbytery initiatives, public education and
religious education.
(c) To welcome new Presbytery Elders.
(d) To provide training for Elders, Session Clerks, Clerks to Financial
Courts, Treasurers and Property Conveners (planned jointly if necessary with
other committees)
. (d) To make congregations aware of developments in worship and encourage
initiatives and exploration of worship within the Presbytery.
. (e) To give opportunities for training to those involved in Children’s and
Young People’s Ministry.
(f) To supervise the requirements of Child Protection.
(g) To deal with the elements of the remit of the Council on Mission and
Discipleship as they relate to Presbytery and are not allocated to other
Committees.
MINISTRY
(Convener - Iain Barclay)
(a) To have oversight of relevant aspects of the work of the Council on
Ministries as it relates to Presbytery.
(a) Selection and Training for Ministry.
(b) In Service Training and Study Leave
(c) Supervision of Chaplaincies, Deacons and Parish Assistants.
(d) Pastoral Support for all who work for or within the Presbytery.
WORLD CHURCH
(Co-conveners - Stephen Taylor and Alan Falconer)
(a) To inform congregations of the Church of Scotland's partnership in World
Mission and to encourage participation through World Mission Teams in
congregations, links with Missionary Partners and other exchanges, and to
nurture prayer for the mission and missionaries of the Church around the
world.
(b) To support the work of Christian Aid and the Regional Ecumenical Team.
(c) To keep a watching brief on inter-faith dialogue, and to promote and
support local initiatives of inter-church activity.
(The Committee appoints two Joint Conveners one of whom is responsible for
Ecumenical Relations.)
5. Remits of the other Standing Committees of Presbytery which ordinarily
meet in the third week of the months of September, October, November,
January, February, March and April, and in the first week of June*.
CONGREGATIONAL SUPPORT
(Convener - Nigel Parker)
(a) To supervise the annual oversight and attestation of Congregational and
Presbytery Records (to be reported by 31 March annually) and fulfill the
requirements of Presbyterial Superintendence by Quinquennial Visitations as
laid down by Acts of the General Assembly; and to provide such other
assistance to congregations as may be required.
(b) To inform and encourage Congregations in every aspect of Stewardship
including the use of Promoters.
(c) To provide the Presbytery Treasurer with such statistics as are
necessary for calculating annual
Congregational Assessments.
PROPERTY
(Convener - Dorothy Smith)
Closely linked with Parish Development, the committee provides oversight and
guidance with regard to all church properties in Presbytery according to the
Acts of the General Assembly and Regulations set by Assembly Committees.
CHURCH AND SOCIETY
(Convener - Andrew McKie)
(a) To provide a local forum for matters raised by the General Assembly's
Church and Nation Committee and to consider and promote awareness of issues
of local, national or international public concern.
(b) To reflect, encourage and promote the work of the Board of Social
Responsibility.
(c) To participate in the caring ministry of the Church through direct
involvement with social agencies both Church of Scotland and other bodies.
(c) To consider issues of personal morality.
(d) To keep the issues of Poverty and the possible responses of churches to
them before Presbytery and Congregations.
(e)To initiate and promote the Mission of the Church in Industry in close
co-operation with the Aberdeen Industrial Council of Churches.

of the year at the request of Committees
and subject to the approval of the Business & Finance Committee and
Presbytery.
